Initiation

Your world crumbles as if it were real,

The density beneath your gentle feet

Left its mark as you tiptoed through

This unknown jungle

There is much to admire, much to distract,

For it seems to be ours, yours in fact

Reflecting a lightness, inner and outer

Fills you whole, in this matter.

Cupped hands around your fragile frame,

Bathe you in an embryonic embrace

A familiar sense of purity, you return

Cleansed of all sin, past and present.

Until the tremors threaten once again,

Overtake you with a grave chilling,

A familiar warning, the fire’s lit

Back down you go, into hell’s pit.
